Each year, the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans allows residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in the recreational summer food fishery for Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). The Atlantic cod was once the economic driver for Newfoundland and Labrador, however, because of overfishing and poor management of cod stocks, there was a moratorium on Atlantic cod imposed over 25 years ago.
SubC’s owners come from fishing families, and their fathers are active in-shore fishermen. SubC believes in sustainable fisheries and is talking to innovative companies who have a goal to create new technologies that efficiently catch fish, without contacting the seafloor.
During the food fishery, you will commonly see small recreational boats throughout coastal communities with fishing lines in the water. While testing the SubC Imaging Rayfin Smart Camera and LED, we are able to act as your eyes into the unknown and give you a glimpse into what lies beneath those fishing lines.
Constantly testing and refining products is how SubC continues to remain at the forefront of subsea imaging technology today, it also allows us the opportunity to explore our home.
SubC Imaging is based in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, on the edge of the unforgiving North Atlantic ocean. These harsh ocean conditions have proven to be an incredibly beneficial backyard testing environment for SubC’s cameras and solutions. If the technology can hold up here, it can hold up anywhere.
The SubC Digital Stills Solution combines industry-leading image capture with event-tracking capabilities and data acquisition. Our easy-to-use subsea cameras are nimble and will meet any underwater requirements. The 4K Rayfin Smart Camera, for example, controls the LED as a lamp when recording video or as a strobe by syncing with the exposure time to capture objects in highest detail for digital stills.
